Natural Park

There is a handful of rocks that rises in the hills. Above Anghiari. A dark handful. Shady rocks. As high as mountains. They arise right in the middle of the fields oh hay, poppies and olie trees. Detached from the Tuscan sweetness. Unique. Tough as the us, the people of tuscan Apennines Rough on the surface and delicate on the inside, that is what Monti Rognosi are like. Bare rocks full of mystery.

Frightening. But come closer, look closely. The menacing fist will then open and offer its gems. Precious minerals of amazing colours which change in the sun, in the rain, in the moonlight. They are called Ophiolites, or Snake Stones: flakes with geen glints and yellow flashes, shades of copper, and, here and there, strands of silver and traces of gold. Explore the Monti Rognosi, as did the Etruscans and the Romans. From the middle Ages until the nineteenth century. Collected, sorted, merged stones. Caves, crevices, holes. Treasures and mysteries protected by pine trees and courageous unique vegetation. Even stubborn, at times, offering flowers and scents season after season to that handful of hostile nature turning its hostility into a caress.

How to reach the Monti Rognosi:
Only a few kilometers north of Anghiari, easily accessible by SP 45 towards Ponte alla Piera or by S.P. 47 towards Caprese Michelangelo.
